Our own font!

Thanks to the super-creative talents of Jsozzani (@thegoodox), we now have our own custom font made exclusively for I know in my heart!

And, yes, it’s a real font. I installed it on my computer and typed out that message.

Pretty cool!

I knew from the beginning that I wanted a custom font on the cover of the book to grab people’s attention and be recognizable as our unique brand. I started with a whimsical, curly font that we all probably have on our computers called “Party LET”. Though I liked it’s whimsy, it just didn’t quite fit the style of our illustrations. So, I asked some illustrators for their help. After a brief search on Fiverr.com, I enlisted the services of Jsozzani in Argentina. I gave her a few thoughts on what I wanted (child-like, rounded letters, cartoony) and let her loose. She came back with several fantastic options but none seemed quite right. So I sat down and started sketching. And I hit paydirt on the first page. The letters didn’t need to be round and cartoony. They needed to be angular, like they were painted with a brush. I think that’s called an “epiphany”. ;)

I sent a copy of my sketch to Jsozzani and within a few days she had several new options with variations on the sketch I sent her. And she nailed it. One or two very minor revisions, the addition of numbers and punctuation, and we had it! Our very own font.

We won’t be using it in “body” text (book interiors, etc.), but it will be used in “display” text in titles, on posters, etc.
